Note regarding basic pension supplement – dispatch of the first official communication and income assessment
Until the end of 2022, Deutsche Rentenversicherung (German Pension Insurance) checked all pensions for entitlement to a basic pension and dispatched a first official communication to all those entitled. Some 1.1 million pensioners benefit from the basic pension and on average receive EUR 86 more each month. The corresponding press release of the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales) can be found here.
If you have any questions regarding your eligibility or how your basic pension supplement is calculated, please contact exclusively the responsible insurance provider. The contact details for your insurance provider at Deutsche Rentenversicherung can be found here.
Please note: The Deutsche Post Pension Service cannot give you any information on this matter.
In accordance with statutory provisions, an income assessment of all eligible persons was conducted in recent weeks in connection with the payment of the basic pension supplement beginning in 2023. If, as a result of this assessment, you received a new notification in November or December 2022, it informed you if your basic pension supplement has changed or lapsed. The income assessment is conducted on an annual basis
Further information on the basic pension supplement is available here.
The energy relief payment (Energiepreispauschale) of €300 has been paid out by the Pensions Payment Offices. On your account statement the amount will be listed with the word “Energiepreispauschale” as a payment reference.
If you are entitled to the energy relief payment but have not yet received it, you can apply for retroactive payment. The application form can be found online at kbs.de/epp.
You can submit your application for retroactive payment between January 9 and June 30, 2023, to the following address: Deutsche Rentenversicherung Knappschaft-Bahn-See, 44781 Bochum, Germany. That’s the case regardless of which Pensions Payment Office is responsible for paying your regular pension payments.
General information on the energy relief payment for pensioners can be found online at bmas.de/entlastung-fuer-rentner or you can call the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) at +49 (0)30 221 911 001 (Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.).
You haven’t received a pension payment since the end of November because Renten Service did not receive the completed and signed life certificate form within the deadline.
As a result, we were obliged to return the payment order for your pension to your pension insurance provider.
