Here you will find information regarding your statutory pension and have the opportunity to notify us of any changes.
These pages will provide you with more information about the topic of pension payment. The core mission of the Renten Service is ensuring on-time, reliable and efficient payment of statutory pension as well as providing services related to private and company pension plans:
Since January 1, 2005, those without children who are covered by compulsory statutory long-term care insurance pay a surcharge on the regular premium. Excluded from the surcharge are those without children who were born prior to January 1, 1940, irrespective of whether they actually have or ever had children.
As of January 1, 2022, the surcharge will increase by 0.1 percentage points, from 0.25% to 0.35%. The regular premium will remain at 3.05%. The new statutory long-term care contribution for those without children thus amounts to 3.4% as of January 1, 2022.
Those affected by this increase can see their adjusted premium for the first time in their account statement for January 2022. In certain cases, the responsible insurance provider issues a corresponding notification.
You live outside Germany and have not received a pension payment since the end of November 2021? That’s because the Pension Service did not receive your completed and signed life certificate on time.
Here you can find information regarding the 2021 life certificate in your language.
Payments will resume as soon as we receive the completed and signed form. If you submit your life certificate to us in a timely fashion, we can quickly resume your payments and the outstanding amounts will be rendered.

“West” pensions were not adjusted in 2021. If you receive a “West” pension from statutory pension insurance, you did not receive an adjustment notification in June or July 2021.
The “East” pensions increased by 0.72% as of July 1, 2021, as part of the initiative to gradually adjust “East” pensions to match “West” pensions. If you receive an “East” pension from statutory pension insurance, you received an adjustment notification in June or July 2021.
Everything you need to know about your pension adjustment notification can be found in our FAQs.
Your entitlement to a basic bank account means it will no longer be necessary to pay out statutory pensions in cash. Financial institutions will assist you in setting up a basic bank account.
As of December 1, 2021, pension beneficiaries will be charged fees for pension payments made in the form of payment orders for settlement (ZzV) in Germany or check payments to EU residents.
The responsible pension insurance fund will decide on the deduction of costs and the cost amount.
The cost deduction for your pension payment at the end of December 2021 will take effect for the first time as of December 1, 2021.
The German Basic Pension Act (Gesetz zur Grundrente) will become effective as of January 1, 2021. Please note: The basic pension is not a separate payment. It is paid out as a supplement to your statutory pension.
Deutsche Rentenversicherung examines whether the conditions for the basic pension supplement have been met for each pension recipient on a case-by-case basis. You do not need to do anything. There is no need to submit an application.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Deutsche Rentenversicherung warns against con artists. Further information here.
If you meet the conditions, Deutsche Rentenversicherung will send you a notification informing you of the amount of your supplement. The first notifications will begin going out in July 2021 at the earliest. It may take until the end of 2022 for some notifications to be sent.
In any event, the basic pension will be paid out retroactively. This means that if you do not receive your notification until December 2022, you will receive all of your basic pension supplement payments for the period from January 2021 to December 2022 in a single payment.
Information regarding the basic pension is provided by Deutsche Rentenversicherung, for example through its toll-free number 0800 1000 4800 from Monday through Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. or on Fridays between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
