Book shipments - features
Content
Book shipments are intended exclusively for the shipping of books, brochures, sheet music and maps. Factual information may be enclosed as loose sheets or attached to items or item packaging. This type of information/enclosure could be one of the following for example:
- The invoice and/or delivery note regarding the contents of the shipment
- A pre-printed, pre-completed payment form with invoice amounts
- A reply envelope or return label
- A lending card or a book inventory card
- Printed items such as brochures, cards with general or interchangeable texts (e.g. "Best wishes for a good year ") or general printed texts - these printed items may not be sent as the main dispatch item
- Brief statements detailing contents such as internal labels, place and day of dispatch as well as sender information and signature.
The contents of book shipments may not be intended to serve commercial purposes. In particular, a commercial purpose is deemed to exist under the following conditions:
- The printed work is published by a commercial company whose main activity is not publishing
- The contents of the printed work exclusively or nearly exclusively illustrate the products of a specific company (group of companies) or their use is recommended
- The printed work is provided by a commercial company free of charge or only for a nominal fee
- The contents involve the financial reports of a commercial company
- The contents involve publications of non-commercial establishments within which affiliated commercial companies are advertised
Price information or references to commercial companies or products in the work itself are allowed provided they have a clearly recognizable informative character and do not serve commercial purposes. In addition, the enclosed printed items or the statements of contents may not include addressed written communications such as:
- Individual letter mail text of any kind whether hand-written or printed
- Texts with salutations (e.g. "Dear customer")
- Texts with formulaic expressions of politeness (e.g. "yours sincerely")
- Personal messages (e.g. "the rest to follow")
