Data matrix code
Along with the "P" mark the data matrix code is a key component of all PREMIUMADRESS mail items. It contains important information on your mail item, which has been digitally encoded.
Depending on the requirement, as well as information on the product type the code provides information on:
- How to deal with undeliverable mail items (destruction, redirection, return).
- Which addresses, e.g. catalogs to send returns to.
- To whose attention in your company amended recipient data records should be sent.
- What customer numbers and customer statuses are recorded (recipient customer-specific information).

In addition to Deutsche Post's software solutions there are various software products which support creation of the data matrix codes.
Even easier to use - Premiumadress Label.
For customers who wish to create their data matrix code on their PC without using special software we have developed the new PREMIUMADRESS Label with an integrated data matrix code. The label is particularly well suited to small items and gives you the option of having less flexibility than PREMIUMADRESS if you have few or no requirements as to how recipient customer-specific information is presented.
- Checking undeliverable mail items and data capture
Our local mail carriers check any mail items containing the "P" mark. By scanning the data matrix code and address field all information on undeliverable mail items is recorded and linked to the reason why the item cannot be delivered.
- Data alignment and data transfer
The digitalized addresses of undeliverable mail items are aligned with the redirection, deceased recipients and (optionally) the undeliverable mail items database.
One to two days after attempted delivery your incorrect addresses will be amended. As well as downloading data you can also receive your updated address data by SFTP or as a print-out list.
